Reading Report #1

Please tell me about the reading you have done for the first two weeks of school. I am interested to know the scope and type of reading that you have done. Don't just list articles or books; tell a little bit about what you read -- what you thought of it, whether it was hard reading or not, whether you would recommend it to others. You may mention the reading you have done for other classes, but I am mainly interested in the reading you have done on your own, by your choice. Try to give a good picture of your reading habits. I will grade your report on its clarity and completeness, so express yourself well and be thorough. Remember to check spelling and other mechanics before you publish.

I have been reading a lot of different things. I haven’t been just reading one particular thing like a book or anything. I have been reading seventeen magazines, and other different magazines. Another thing I have been reading is myspace comments and such. I talk to a lot of people on there so I read the stuff they send me. I have also been texting some as well. That is fun but at the same time your reading! I have also had to read different things for different classes like I had to read in my cultural geography book for that class. That wasn’t very much fun though. Other than that I have just been reading random things that come my way.

I haven’t really been reading all that much these past few weeks. Well, not novels anyway. I have been reading on and off though, this book called “Life of Pi”. It’s a book about this boy who gets stranded on a boat after a storm with all of these different animals, one of which is a tiger, and the tiger ends up eating all of the other animals but not the boy. So the tiger and the boy are stranded at sea together in this tiny little wooden boat. The story so far is just the boy reminiscing about his life and how he came to be aboard the ship that crashed and how he wants so badly to survive. I have read this book before and I am just now in the middle of it for my second time. It is a mildly difficult read, but is a great story once into it.

I haven’t been reading a lot of real books or anything but I do alto more reading then I used to. First on myspace I read comments, blogs, and information about people and I also do the same on facebook. Also, I have been doing a lot more texting then I usually do! I am up to about 6,000 per month. And that means I do a lot of reading all the time! I also have been reading a lot of comics in the paper and the far side comics. I LOVE comedy but I don’t like reading a lot. So I need to find me a comedy book so that I am interested. I actually plan to start reading for the first time ever! When we have to do these things it makes me want to read!

I haven’t been reading much I have been getting to the next chapter in the new Harry Potter book. Which is good but I am not that far in, I’m on the 4 chapter. But I have been busy so I haven’t been getting into it very well. Mostly I have been reading school work such as, Colorado history chapters and work problems in math class. Also I have been reading email that my friends send me but that is all. The good thing about reading the email my friends send me is that they are all really long or mildly long. Also I do remember now that I wrote a note to my boy-friend that was long and he wrote one back that was even longer about 3 pages so that is also something I read that was long. for the most part I am trying to read as much as I can I have been keeping up with Harry Potter for the most part I read little everyday !

What I’ve read over the first three weeks of summer has mainly been the news paper and news reports, The main subject of any of them has been the trial against the football player caught doing dog fights and there has been talk of him getting his career destroyed but the other main focus has been the Weather and the “stupid heat” as a lot of the people said even though its summer there saying that the weather is going to get worse and worse. And I believe them. Also the Meteorologists are saying that there is going to be a huge storm over the next winter because of our global warming and that has shown that we are going to have bad roads and people should already prepare for the worst. And concluding what I have read in the paper there was a research of babies and there was a boost in babies during long periods of snow because the romantic setting and the problem of being snowed in and there being no work so there is more time for the parents to have more children.

Over the past two weeks I read magazines, emails, my phone manual and text messages. I learned a lot about the media and heard from my friends. Every one is up to something new. I contacted an old friend from 7th grade over my space so that was nice catching up wit him. In my phone manual I read about all the new things my phone can do and that is very useful.

What I’ve been reading over the first part of school are magazines. The two magazines that I’ve been reading are Sports Illustrated and XXL. In, Sports Illustrated, I’ve gone over the scouting reports for the new and upcoming football teams. Along with the many areas of the sport world like what’s going on with Vick and the Tim Donagey accusations. Many people agree that Barry Bonds has had a tainted record breaking career. I don’t because I’ve been reading up on those records. In XXL, it’s not really a rap magazine but many think it is unless they don’t read it. Anyways, their September issue was the 10TH year anniversary. My two most highly acclaimed and favorite rappers were on the cover( Birdman and Lil Wayne). They have many articles throughout the issue talking about their careers and since they are from New Orleans they talk about the lack of help in their hometown and how much they helped without much publicity and care from the government. Also in the issue is a timeline of what artist owned a certain year for instance in 2003. Nelly had two multi-platinum records and released around 10 singles in around a year.

I have mainly been reading lots of magazines and stuff on the internet. I’ve been reading sailing magazines and articles about proper sail trim and how to get the most out of your mainsail while running. I already knew to use a jib when beating, a genoa when reaching, and a spinnaker when running or broad reaching, but I learned the techniques to get the most speed out of your sails. I also read Craig’s list postings for a ford bronco and a Macgregor 26. That’s pretty much what I’ve been reading.

WHAT I READ SO FAR

I have been reading news articles since school has started. The articles I have read in the Newspapers are sports. One article that is recent that I have read about sports is the Arapahoe Warriors victory over Chaparral. We won 28-19 and it was an amazing game. Sonjan our receiver made a 101 yard kick return which made us away from Chaparral. That was one article I read that was fantastic and made it interesting.
One other article I read since school has started was the Cowboys vs. the Broncos. The Cowboys kicked there butts. The score was 31-20 and Broncos lost 3 men. I was so happy when I knew Cowboys won. I was bragging in my brothers’ face and friends. That is what I was looking forward to all week. Cowboys made so many great plays on offense. Our Defense was unstoppable to the Broncos. Finally in the last 2 quarters we gave them some points so they wouldn’t feel so bad.
So that is what I have read so far since school has started and those are the articles that I thought was the best. With Cowboys winning there score against the Broncos that made me want to read the article. Also with AHS winning there game I wanted to just give the article to everyone and show how were going to state this year!

In the past few weeks so far I have read a several articles in Road & Track and Sports Illustrated. In Road & Track I learned about the Ferrari Enzo and in sports illustrated I learned about the new football line up for this year. Also I have read most of a book called Uncle John’s Unstoppable which is a book with just a lot of random trivia and stories. Most of the time this book has to much information to learn all at once, so I already forgot most of the things I read about. These articles are very interesting and I would recommend it to over people.

I have been reading the sports page every day and I found out that a blind golfer hit a hole in one. I think that would be very hard to do and just goes to show you that golf is a game of luck. Also I have been reading about the new quarterback at CU and how he is the coach’s son and how awkward their dinner table conversations must be. I think that his son doesn’t live with his parents any more and that just about the only time he sees his son is during practices. I have been reading text messages from my friends as well. Also I have been playing gears of war and there are subtitles for what they say. I have been reading the scroll bar when I was watching ESPN. I also have been reading stuff for school just chapters for what ever we have been learning.

For the past two weeks of school I have been reading over the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. It is a very cool and interesting book. I like it a lot and so do my friends. I have also read people magazine because there was a weird story about Owen Wilson and how he was depressed. I also saw a puzzle that I did. I also read the school news paper that said that the school got seven new security cameras around the school. Why do we need more cameras if we already have so many? The last thing I have read is my homework assignments for Mr. Hess for world civ. and Mr. Craig for Biology.

I read a book called Just Listen over the past couple of weeks. It is about a girl name Annabel and her life up until now. She has to older sisters and they are all in modeling. She has been modeling since she was nine months old. She has had a friend named Clarke since she was one. When they were twelve, Annabel’s older sister, Kristen made Annabel try to become friends with Kristen’s “stalker” who was also twelve. They became great friends, but she didn’t like Clarke. Then, Annabel and Clarke’s friendship was broken one evening, when Annabel had to choose between the two friends. She didn’t choose Clarke. Then, in the later years, the other friend got mad at Annabel. They stopped being friends. This book tells about Annabel’s ups and downs through her life.

So far I have been reading almost every night. I have read the first two “Harry Potter” books over the summer and now I am on the third one. I have to say that it is a lot better than the first two. It feels like the writer of the books, J.K. Rowling, is adding more and more action throughout the books. I am on the eleventh chapter now and it is getting very intense. This book is called “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” it is very well layed out and in sum parts it is very descriptive. I like the way this author connects all her writing back to the first book. All in all, this is a very good series of books so far.
