Four Point Grades

Please comment on the four-point grading system we have been using this semester. In particular, let me know what you think of the following:

  • Do the grades give you a clear picture of your achievement in the class?

  • Do the grades of "Advanced," "Proficient," "Just Okay," and "Needs Work" put more emphasis on the quality of your work?

  • Do these grades make it harder to determine your overall grade in the class?

  • What other comments do you have about this grading system?

I do not like the four point grades. It does make it hard to determine my overall garde because 1-4 is very low and even big assigments are on that low of a scale.

yea i think that the grades are very accurate of what my grade reflects. i think the grades emphazis my quality very proficently and should remain the same. no i think they make it easier to determin because if i get a lot of 2's then my grae should be at least a c.

I don't like the grading system because I don't think it shows your grade very well. I hate when I get the papers back and it says proficient. I want a percentage to know what I got right and what I got wrong. These grades do make it hard because I can't look and say i got a proficient. I did proficient in the class? That makes no sence and I don't like it. Overall I feel you should just do persentages.

I think that the grade scale does not effectively show what grade I should have in this class because when I get 3 out of 4 on a paper or something, in the grade book it turns out to be a 75%. So I find it much harder to figure out what my overall grade will be in the class. I personally like it the other way, when things are worth more points than just 4. I think the "Advanced," "Proficient," "just ok," and "needs work" makes sense though because then you know what to improve on.

I think the 4 point grading scale does give an overall picture of grades n the class. It is helpful, to see how you are doing in the class and what types of assignments you need to work harder on. I think the grading scale does make it a little harder to determine you grade, but I like it a lot better. I think this grading scale is a lot better. The only problem with this scale, is that the LPS Portal doesn't understand it.

I think that the grading scale doesn't properly show the achievements of the work done in class. For example, a three out of four would normally be like an eighty or an eighty five, but on this grading scale a three out of four would be like a seventy five percent. I find it a lot harder to determine what my actual grade is with the present grading scale. I think that the grades "advanced" "proficient" "just okay" and "needs work" are O.K. means of grading, but sometimes I would like a little bit more detail on why such a grade was made on the certain piece of work.

I like the four point grading system because it doesn’t have all the presser that other grading systems have. With this system I can get an ok grade if I don’t so well on a paper. I also get all my mistakes that I made. This system is clear to me and I can understand my grade.

This way of grading is different to me than the usual ways. Now I like it sometimes but I just wish it could change sometimes. I have really a 50-50 situation.
The terms you use for the grades gets me upset sometimes. (Not that it is your fault) But it makes me mad when I see a just okay all the time. But in that same way it makes me realize how bad I did on that writing but I can make it all better again. So your grading terms help me get confidence though. So even if I am mad I have to realize that I have to do better next time.
This question I will say yes and no on. First for the yes it does get difficult sometimes because I can't determine on what I have to do to get my grade up higher in that class. But for the reason on why I like it is because of the way it isn't on A's or B's. That usually stresses me out.
There are no more comments I have to say about this grading system.

I don't really care for the grading system it makes it really hard for me to tell what I have in my class. I think that it is weird how a big project is worth as much as a small one eventhough I put a lot more effort into the project. I think that it is easy to see my overall grade because you tell us what it is but if you didn't tell us i think that it would be very difficult to see what I have.

eh i do not really care what you use. you know what you are doing.

Yes, the grades do give a clear picture of my work in class. I actually like this grading system more than my other classes. I like the proficient (etc) system more than just regular ordinary grades. No i do not think that this grading system is hard to read or determine my grades because i understand the "jist" of it. In my opinion i think that all teachers should use this grading system.

I like it so far, but at times it seems that it can be confusing. I like the simplisity of it but I was confused on the persents. Is one point 25%, if so then a 2 is an F, and a 3 is a C, and the hard to get 4 is an A, just doesn't make sence.

i dont think the four point system is good at all, because if u get a 3 out of 4, thats already a 75%. grades dont really give you a cleart picture of achienvement in class because you could be doing really well, and mess up on a huge test and still fail. i dont think thats right because one test shouldnt be able to do that. it kinda affects your overall grade to because a 2 out of 4 will bring your grade down really fast, and a 1 out of 4 would to.

So i belive that the four point grade scale is a very good thing this is becasue it shows that the grades ar every even and easy to understand but at some points it gets very confuxing to understand. The Grades make perfectly good sence.

i like the grades but its weird to see all of these 75% but have 85% I think they are very accurate and give me a clear picture of my current grade

In belive the 4 point grade scale i say this because it is is very easy 2 read and under stand and percent does not count it shows that it is pretty even

Although the grades give me a good idea on my writing and how much I’m improving I don’t like the way that they show up on infinite campus because I have a few “Proficient” grades which would be an 85% in class but when they are entered in on infinite campus they show up as a 75% and I think that it is bringing me down quite a bit. I think that I could have a much better grade if the computer was grading the way Mr. Sale does. All in all, I don’t like the grading system as much as if it would be out of 10 instead of 4.

I find that this grading system works out a little better and easyer than what i am used to.
